UK Blairs

John and Ann BlairI am John A. Blair, an American now living in Haywards Heath, England. My wife is Ann Morton, of Banstead, Surrey, England. I have two sons, Eric and Jason.

I retired from the US Air Force in 1990, after serving 20 years at various bases around the US and the world. I retired from the City of Manchester NH as an Information Support Specialist for the Finance Department in 2007. I'm a 1965 graduate of Manchester Central High School and a graduate of the University of New Hampshire class of 1969. I have my bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and a masters degree in Systems Management from USC.

My wife Ann has her bachelors degree in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and is a retired registered hospice nurse.

My primary interest is genealogy. I also enjoy fishing and photography. I run three websites associated with Blair Genealogy:

  • Blair Genealogy
Blair Genealogy provides information on Blair genealogy in general and the roots and history of my Blair ancestors who emigrated from Scotland to Vermont and New Hampshire in particular. My ancestry dates back to Stirlingshire Scotland, in the early 1700s. My earliest confirmed Blair ancestor is John Blair born 1720 in Kippen, Stirlingshire Scotland. The first of our Blairs to come to America was John's son, Robert Blair, who came to Vermont in 1785. His nephew Peter Blair, my gr-gr grandfather came to Vermont in the 1830s. We have found letters from Robert's father, John Blair, and other Blair family members in Scotland to Robert in Vermont, dated between 1786 and 1816.

  • The Blair DNA Project
The Blair DNA project is a Y-DNA STR Project, meaning we test the Y-chromosome which is passed from father to son. See DNA 101: Y-Chromosome Testing for a layman's explanation of DNA and the Y-chromosome and how they apply to genealogy. The project is open to any male who descends from a direct Blair bloodline. You don't need to have a Blair surname, just the bloodline.

  • The Blair Society for Genealogical Research
The primary objective of thr Blair Society is to collect, preserve and disseminate genealogical and historical knowledge and information concerning the Family of Blair in its various lines of descent and in all parts of the world where Blair descendants have settled.
